Hungry for Music Notes
October 2021
Since our May newsletter, Hungry for Music has distributed over 500 instruments, putting us over 1,000 donated so far in 2021.  It’s the earliest we have reached this milestone in our history.  We continue to see an increase in the number of instruments donated at our drop-off sites and shipped directly to our distribution center in Virginia.  Also, we continue to grow our list of sources for purchasing new instruments at cost or deeply discounted prices.

Hungry for Music just completed the busiest school request period in our history, distributing over 350 instruments to 63 schools in the U.S.

Our growth has been supported immensely by our staff and repair technicians.
Big Thank You to Dee, Dawn, Cassie, Sam, Steve, Ben, Marc, Kelly, Colin, Joe, Jim, and Alan.  We could not do what we do without them and are very grateful for their contribution to our mighty music mission.

And, as you read further, you will see how foundations, other organizations, and even kids help us carry out our mission.

Please consider supporting Hungry for Music next month when Giving Tuesday rolls around and help us give the gift of music to more aspiring young musicians!

May you always find comfort in music,

Jeff Campbell

Hungry for Music in Action
We're grateful to Gabriel Music Society for distributing all the instruments we deliver to them annually in the Detroit area.   Here's just one of them:
" Thank you so much for giving me a trumpet to keep for my very own. I love it so much it is much nicer than my last horn. I can’t wait until my MSU Trumpet class start so I can play my trumpet with them. It is going to be so much fun. I’m really happy that you donated instruments to our school. I want to thank you all so much."
- Arieona, Detroit

Keeping FedEx Busy
During one week in September, FedEx picked up over 40 boxes (most with multiple instruments) from the Hungry for Music distribution center in Mt. Jackson, VA.
It was our busiest school request period ever!
Replacement Wheels!
The insurance company ultimately totaled our van, Vanna White, who was rear-ended on Interstate 95 in Delaware back in May.  So, we needed another van to help us with our important work.  Meet Ramona, the new Hungry for Music RAM Promaster 3500 van.

David Byrne’s American Utopia
We are immensely grateful to the cast and crew of David Byrne’s Broadway show,  “American Utopia”, for donating $10,000.00 to Hungry for Music and two other non-profits instead of having an opening night party.

The performances have received rave reviews and the New York Times called it “dazzling, rapturous and jubilant." Check it out
